As he questions his religious education and searches for a higher spirituality, Sérusier, during his stay in Huelgoat, discovers the many legends connected with Breton forests, particularly those concerned with the ancient Brocéliande.  He pictures women from Huelgoat as Druid priestesses.  At the heart of the forest, three women carry out a ritual by a fire where a small flame can be seen.  The rock resembling the head of a lion serves as an altar.
