H. 48,5 cm - L. 62,5 cm

This painting by Pierre Mignard and its companion work, l’Espérance (Hope), demonstrate a style that is characteristic of this century in Paris.   Mignard was a rival of Le Brun and one of the finest artists of his time.  These canvases are too small to be used above doors, but they originate no doubt from works painted by Mignard for Louis XIV and his court.
