This work was attributed to Tiepolo, but it is actually by another prestigious representative of Venetian rococo, Pittoni, who succeeded him at the Academy of Venice. The nativity was a favourite subject for the painter and he painted many versions. The brilliant execution and popular theme of this kind of painting appealed to numerous art lovers.
