The discovery of the Pays Bigouden by Jean Bazaine in 1936 is a revelation for him.  He spends several months each year in a fisherman’s cottage near the sea.  He is sensitive to atmospheric effects, the movement of the sea, the lines of boats in the port and the harshness of the landscape, and transforms these into drawings and gouaches on site.  Later, he paints on canvas in his studio and focuses more deeply on reality to find genuine nature.  His works are never entirely abstract.
